Two Pupils Qualify for National Fencing Championships

Oliver Richardson (G) and Caroline Lansdown (W) have both qualified for the National Championships following good final placings in the South East Championships Qualifiers at Whitgift School. Oliver fenced really well in the first round to give himself a high seed of fifth and took the final qualification spot. Caroline finished joint third in her event and also qualified. The national finals are held in Sheffield in May.

This year a record number of Epsom fencers entered the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships held at Crystal Palace. Nearly 100 HMC schools enter this annual competition and this been Epsom’s best performance in recent years.

Oliver Richardson placed well in both the boys’ junior epee and boys’ junior foil finishing the foil competition in 19th place. Stephanie Chu (Wh) made it through to the last 16 in girls’ senior epee and finished eighth in the girls’ senior foil, securing a trophy. Caroline Lansdown fought well in the girls’ senior epee and finished in 13th place in the girls’ senior sabre. Ed Stainthorpe (Rn) made it through to the third round and Jason Kitcatt (Fa) made it through to the second round of their events, notable accomplishments especially as they have only been fencing since September. Raffi Harley (Fa) also made a notable debut.
