Our A-level students spent a day deepening their knowledge, and pushing themselves beyond the standard curriculum at the Psychology and Science Conference. The day began with an inspiring session from Cara Flanagan and Mike Cardwell, renowned authors of A-level psychology textbooks, who delved into how psychology’s rigorous research methods unveil fascinating insights into human behaviour. They also tackled the complexities of socially sensitive research, highlighting its profound impact and ethical challenges.
But the conference wasn’t just about theory – it was a journey beyond the curriculum. Researchers shared captivating presentations on unexpected topics: using dance to unlock the mysteries of the mind, exploring the allure of conspiracy theories, and revealing how every magic trick is a clever psychological experiment that tricks the brain. A live hypnosis demonstration led to a discussion on how intriguing technique benefits society, leaving the audience spellbound.
The interactive nature was a highlight, with students eagerly participating in live experiments. By the end of the day, they left with a fresh appreciation of psychology’s real-world applications…and perhaps a few tricks up their sleeves to share.
