Sport Round Up – 7 October

The Epsom Golf Team of Kris Kim (Year 10, Fayrer), Oscar Lent (Year 11, Propert) and Holly Justice (Year 9, Rosebery) put in incredible performances at the HMC Singles Tournament at The Berkshire Golf Club. Taking on the Red Course, a Championship golf course of the very highest standard, Kris Kim won the singles competition with an outstanding score of 8 under par. A truly exceptional and astonishing performance, further proving that he is one of the best young golfers in the UK at just 15.

Oscar finished runner-up with a round of 4 under par, an impressive score which would usually easily be strong enough to win such a tournament, and the team were overall champions.

Holly was at no point intimidated by the course, her opponents, or the occasion. She took the whole day in her stride and can be justly proud of her scoring, which was a very strong start towards achieving a win at the Girls Championships. Fantastic results all round, well done to all three players.

In Football, Charlie Walker-Smith (Year 10, Propert) represented Wales at U16 level. The first of two friendlies against France took place on Wednesday, with the second taking place this evening (Friday 7 October). The matches are Wales’ preparation for the Victory Shield, an annual international competition contested by Scotland, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Epsom’s Netball 1st VII lost in the ISNC Cup to St Swithun’s School on Tuesday, 39-49, in a tightly-fought match that was physical and fast-paced. Despite a disappointing result, the team showed moments of excellence, with relentless defensive efforts from Maddi Lovett (Lower Sixth, Crawfurd), Delphine Ayitey-Hammond (Upper Sixth, Raven) and Furaha Wasunna (Upper Sixth, Wilson) in particular. Ruby Barr (Lower Sixth, Crawfurd) and Maddi Lovett were named Players of the Match.

Amber Griffin (Year 10, Crawfurd), Sophie Lovett (Year 8) and Sabrina Smith (Year 10, Raven) will represent Epsom at the U16 National Skiing Championships in Norwich on Saturday.

In Squash, boys and girls of all age groups were involved in 20 matches against Charterhouse at home yesterday afternoon, with the U15 girls victorious.
