Sport Round Up – 30 September

Epsom’s Basketball 1st team won well against Waldegrave School 31-27 with Ben Wong (Upper Sixth, Granville) and Chinda Ekeh (Upper Sixth, Forest) named players of the match.

On the Golf course, Year 10 Kris Kim (Fayrer), Year 11 Oscar Lent (Propert) and Lower Sixth William Russell (Robinson) competed at the ISGA Championships at St Pierre Club, playing against the very best golfers in the UK. Oscar placed 4th and Kris finished 5th. All three players should be proud of their achievements on a very long and difficult course, which has previously hosted European Championships.

In Hockey there were good wins for the U15Bs and U14ABs against strong Wellington College sides, and encouraging displays at the Danes Hill tournament for the U13As and U12As.

Two of our Netball players have been selected to the Surrey Storm U19 National Performance League (NPL) team. This is a huge achievement for Dané Grundlingh (Lower Sixth, White) and Maddi Lovett (Lower Sixth, Crawfurd), who will be playing at the top level nationally.

The Epsom Rugby teams won eight out of their nine matches against St John’s last Saturday, plus two wins for the 4ths and U14Ds vs Dulwich College. Four out of six matches were won by the Lower School against London Oratory. The U15A team progressed in the cup competition with a 50-0 win over Richard Challoner School. Sadly, the 1st XV lost narrowly to Whitgift, 13-23.

The College swimmers put in a really good performance at the English Schools Swimming Association Relays in Guildford. Epsom competed against up to 19 other schools in three categories – Junior Girls, Intermediate Girls and Senior Boys.

In Squash the 1st V remain unbeaten following victories against two of the strongest schools on the circuit, St Paul’s and Winchester. Epsom’s Senior Squad this year is a remarkably young and mixed-gender team, featuring only one Sixth Form student and with several Epsom girls making their debut for the 1st team so far this season.
