Early Morning Domestic Assistant (Classrooms and Buildings)

We are seeking a part-time Domestic Assistant to work 12 hours a week. The post-holder will report to the Cleaning Supervisor and help to maintain designated areas in a hygienic and satisfactory condition according to work schedules and set standards.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. To ensure that all classrooms and common areas are cleaned according to work schedules and set standards.
  2. To ensure that all offices, meeting rooms, lecture theatre, stairwells and halls are cleaned according to work schedules and set standards.
  3. To maintain all washroom facilities in a hygienic condition according to set standards.
  4. To ensure that all floors are maintained to a high level of cleanliness and cleaned in accordance with set standards.
  5. To undertake deep-cleaning activities and any other periodic tasks as required.
  6. To ensure that cleaning storerooms are maintained in a tidy, safe and hygienic condition and appropriate chemicals and disposables stock levels are maintained.
  7. To carry out duties in line with the College’s safeguarding protocols and procedures.
  8. To ensure that C.O.S.H.H regulations relating to any cleaning product are adhered to.
  9. To report all defects or maintenance requests to the Cleaning Supervisor.
  10. To maintain a co-operative relationship with staff, students and work colleagues within your area of responsibility.
  11. To assist in any other areas of the College as may be required.
  12. To attend all mandatory and relevant training as required by the Facilities Manager (FM).
  13. To undertake any other reasonable task as directed by the FM.
  14. To be aware of responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. To adhere to all relevant regulations. i.e. Fire Precautions, Manual Handling, C.O.S.H.H etc.
  15. To be aware of the implications of strangers on campus and conscious of your security responsibilities.
  16. To adopt a flexible approach to the role and undertake any other reasonable task as requested. i.e. support security duties/lock up and internal/ external events.

Qualification, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience of cleaning to specified standards
  • Understanding and commitment to safeguarding procedures and protocols.
  • Customer focused
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Sense of humour, even temper and able to remain calm, patient and polite at all times
  • Reliable, punctual and a flexible approach to duties.

Desirable

  • Working within a school environment
  • Experience of cleaning within a commercial environment

The selection panel reserves the right to enhance any or all of the desirable criteria to attain a manageable field

Terms & Conditions

  • Salary:  £7,962 per annum.
  • Hours: 12 hours per week throughout the year Monday to Saturday 6-8am (some flexibility to cover for school events i.e. Parents Evenings)
  • Holidays: The holiday entitlement is a total of 28 days paid holiday per annum including bank holidays increasing by 1 day per annum to a maximum of 33 days per annum following 5 years continuous service inclusive of bank holidays and pro rata for part time working.
  • Pension: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria.  If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current pension regulations. 
  • Life Assurance: Staff who are active members of the Pension scheme will be afforded life assurance cover at 2 times basic annual salary at no cost to the employee.

Offer of Post

The post will be offered subject to receipt of satisfactory written references, pre-placement medical assessment, proof of appropriate qualifications, a check of online search engines and websites of publicly available information that does not identify the candidate as potentially unsuitable to work within a school setting, a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and overseas police check if appropriate, as well as confirmation that the successful candidate is able to work in the UK.

Prior to interview, an online search of internet search engines, websites and other publicly available and publicly accessible platforms to ascertain applicant’s suitability to work within a school environment will be undertaken on applicants that have been shortlisted.

Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
