Background

The College has a long history of excelling in sport. Pupils benefit from being coached by our highly experienced and skilled staff; many of whom played professionally, in their chosen field. Epsom College boasts wonderful grounds with indoor and external sporting facilities, including pitches, courts and a professional grade water-based AstroTurf hockey pitch.

The highly successful Multi-Sport Courses have been running for many years and endures a strong reputation locally. In response to a growing demand for activity and sports-based courses for children, during the holiday periods, the Commercial Enterprise team have enhanced further our activities programme. The offer now includes sports coaching in individual fields such as Cricket, Netball, Tennis and Football as well as Dance and Drama. We now see attendees from over 80 different schools taking part. We welcome boys and girls between the ages 8 and 14 to join the varied and fun programme of sports and activities.

Role Summary

The College is seeking a highly motivated and proactive individual to work under the direction of the Commercial and Events Manager in taking responsibility for the planning, promotion, implementation and review of a sports course. They should have significant experience in developing and delivering high quality training programmes in the particular sport and be able to advise the Commercial and Events Manager on the appropriate format of the course, staffing levels as well as how best to market that specific course.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Course

•Guide and develop the structure of the Netball course in liaison with the Commercial and Events Manager;
• Planning, liaising and organising the logistical arrangements for the course with relevant departments and the Commercial and Events Manager;
• Build and nurture relationships with relevant sports clubs and schools to market the course;
• Assist in providing accurate course information for marketing, publicity and website purposes;
• Appoint appropriately qualified staff and source on a timely basis;
• Regularly liaise with the Commercial and Events Manager with regard to numbers of attendees and adapt the course programme, staffing and logistical arrangements as necessary.

During the Course

• Lead and deliver the course programme to a high standard;
• Liaise with parents/guardians and be the first point of contact with regard to any queries pre, on the day and post course;
• Manage the Coaches and Assistants in delivering the programme;
• Provide coaching skills and guidance to the children attending the course;
• Supervise attendees, ensuring that a safe, friendly and productive environment is maintained at all times, including during lunch and mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks;
• Supervise course participants attending breakfast club;
• Ensure active, enjoyable and motivational sessions to meet the needs of attendees;
• Carry out all duties with due regard to safeguarding and health and safety protocols.

Post Course

• Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the course and make improvements in liaison with the Commercial and Events Manager;
• Follow up any parental/guardian queries.
The post holder may also be required to undertake any other reasonable task required by the Bursar or Commercial and Events Manager in association with the above role.

Required Skills

• Demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for the particular course sport;
• Provide evidence of extensive experience of playing or coaching the sport to a high level;
• Display an ability to inspire, motivate and encourage pupils through sporting and coaching activities;
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills to engage with pupils and the wider College community;
• Show excellent leadership skills, strong organisational skills and competent IT skills;
• Provide evidence of experience of working with children or young people, displaying a fair and consistent approach in the supervision of children;
• Demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding and health and safety procedures within an environment involving young people;
• Demonstrate the ability to supervise others, particularly younger adults.

Terms and Conditions

Dates/Hours: The post requires pre and post course planning and organisation.
The hours on the day of the course would be 8.45am to 5pm (Course times are 10am-4pm).

Course Dates: Monday 12th – Friday 16th August 2024

Salary: A total of £255 per day worked of the course running inclusive of holiday entitlement. This rate includes an allowance for pre and post planning.

In the unlikely event the course did not go ahead, and subject to having undertaken the necessary pre-course planning, a one-off payment of £200 would be payable.

Holiday: In addition, you will be paid statutory holiday payment based on the weeks/hours worked calculated at 5.6 weeks per annum and pro rata during this temporary appointment. 

Pension: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4%. Employees can opt out of the scheme.

Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
