Attendance & Registration | Epsom College

Boarders have breakfast in the Dining Hall from 7.30am, and need to be back in their House ready for registration – along with all Day pupils – no later than 8.20am each morning.

Registration is at 8.25am, and takes place in your House. If you miss registration, you should sign in at the College’s Main Reception as soon as you arrive, unless absolutely certain that the late arrival has been recorded on the daily register by your Housemaster/Housemistress or Matron.

What if I'm ill?

No student should be away from school without special permission, except if you are unwell.

In the case of illness or accident, your Housemaster/Housemistress or Matron must be informed by telephone by 8.20am on the first day of absence. If they are not available, the College Reception will pass on a message.

At the end of the period of absence, a note from your parents – which can be in the form of an email – should be sent to Housemaster/Housemistress or Matron.

Are there exceptions for holidays, family occasions or cultural events?

All of us, at home and at school must make your child’s education our number one priority.

Therefore, we ask that you do not request for your child to be away from school unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Term dates are published well in advance – and can be viewed here – so no pupil should expect to be allowed to leave early. Permission is needed from the Head and is only granted in very special circumstances. As you will understand, it creates difficult precedents, disrupts lessons, and inconveniences teachers.

From time to time, opportunities arise for pupils to attend cultural events. Attending such events can be enriching and we are always prepared to consider requests from parents. However, we do ask for as much notice as possible and for your support if – for any reason – we feel that permission should not be granted.

What happens over half term and exeat weekends?

The College closes completely over Half Term and Exeat Weekends, just as it does during the Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays.

During these times, all Boarders are expected to visit their family or official guardians. If alternative arrangements have been made, your Housemaster/Housemistress must be told well in advance.

What are the arrangements for Weekly Boarders?

On a normal weekend, Weekly Boarders may leave College at 3pm, or after their school commitments, on a Saturday afternoon.

You should return to the College by 7.30pm on Sunday, or in time for registration on Monday morning with the prior agreement of your Housemaster or Housemistress.

If a Weekly Boarder wishes to stay at College on a Saturday night, this can be arranged by agreement with the Housemaster or Housemistress. You would be charged for the additional evening, and you would then be under the normal boarding regulations for the weekend.
